自然環境是一個整體而複雜的動態平衡系統,小小的人為介入也可能造成不可預期的劇烈變化。因此我們相信「釐清環境問題」、「釐清人類活動與自然環境的關係」是人類再度試圖介入環境、改變環境之前的必要課題。

 Why?
工業革命以來,人類大量製造與使用抑菌劑、塑化劑、鎮痛解熱劑等,這些物質經使用後會隨著廢污水排入污水系統,且可能在污水處理過程中轉換成毒性更高且更具累積性的化合物。它們進入自然水體後,不僅可能影響水生生物的生殖發展,也可能污染自來水水源或累積於生物體內、增加飲用水與食品安全風險。然而目前各國因科學資料不足,難以立法規範這些新興污染物
 (emerging contaminants)。因此我們致力於探討新興污染物在水環境中的分布、轉換與宿命,以及它們對環境生態與人類健康的潛在危害。


 How?

本研究室開發以層析質譜技術為主的超微量分析方法來定性與定量水環境中的藥物、個人保健品、與它們的轉換產物 (transformation products);並以多變量分析等統計方法評估這些物質的流布、宿命、生物累積性與毒理機制。
