(1) Introduction

Department History

The department was established in the 70th year of the Republic of China. In the 81st year of the Republic of China, the Environmental Science Research Institute's master's program was established, admitting approximately 18 students each year. Over the past 20 years, the department has produced over 900 undergraduate graduates and over 150 master's graduates. Graduates have shown excellent performance in various exams, employment, and further studies abroad.

Department  Features

From the Earth's environment to personal health, the department focuses on teaching in the areas of environmental ecology and conservation, environmental pollution prevention and control, environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, and environmental planning and management.

(2) Teaching and Research Development Priorities

Development Direction and Focus of the Department

The scarcity of natural resources and the worsening of environmental quality are universal phenomena caused by modernization in countries around the world. Over the past few decades, our country's economic growth has been extremely rapid, and we are about to enter the ranks of developed countries. Economic growth has greatly improved the living standards of the people and laid a favorable foundation for modern capital accumulation. However, it has also caused environmental disasters, severely affecting the living space of the people. Both the government and the public attach great importance to this issue and have made many efforts to solve environmental problems. Environmental problems are phenomena that transcend multiple media (commonly known as land, sea, air, etc.) and cannot be separated one by one. For example, air pollutants from smelting plants, after being dispersed in the atmosphere, cause pollution of soil, groundwater, and surface water, thereby affecting the ecological environment and the entire food chain. Water pollution can also form air pollution under the influence of various climatic factors.
